In dit werk voor Viool en piano, geschreven voor violist Thomas Patijn,
voor de Michaels-periode 2023

zijn drie Vrije School Michaelsliederen verwerkt.

In this work for violin and piano, written for violinist Thomas Patijn,
for the Michaels period 2023,
three Waldorf School Michaels songs are incorporated.

Het begin van het werk, in de zonnetoonsoort A dur

beeldt het Zonnerijk van de zonne-aartsengel in de tijdstroom uit

(zie Steiners Michaelsbrieven).

The beginning of the work, in the solar key of A major,
depicts the Solar Realm of the solar archangel in the flow of time
(see Steiner's Letters to Michael).

Na een wat duister intermezzo wordt in het pianissimo

het eerste Michaelslied geïntroduceerd:

Bede aan st. Michael.

After a somewhat dark intermezzo,
the first Michael's song is introduced in the pianissimo:
Prayer to St. Michael.

Er volgen nu een 5-tal variaties die in hevigheid toenemen

waarna de climax weer wordt afgebouwd

en de muziek in de diepte verzinkt.

In een teder pianissimo volgt:

het 2^e Michaelslied:
Michael met uw lichtend zwaard.

Five variations now follow, increasing in intensity,
after which the climax subsides
and the music sinks into the depths.
In a tender pianissimo follows:
the 2nd Michael's Song:
Michael with your shining sword.

Opnieuw verzinkt de muziek in de diepte,

en een duister, dreigend soort muziek verschijnt,

wat de Draak verbeeldt.

Na een citaat van het bekende gregoriaanse Dies-Irae-motief,

-immers, Michael is de aartsengel van het laatste oordeel-,

verschijnt het meest zegenrijke derde Michaelslied:

O onverwinbre Godesheld,

Once again the music sinks into the depths,
and a dark, menacing kind of music emerges,
representing the Dragon.
After a quotation of the well-known Gregorian Dies-Irae motif,
-for Michael is the archangel of the Last Judgment-,
the most blessed / heroic third Michael song appears:
O invincible Hero of God,

waarna de muziek naar de slotclimax voert

met het heroïsche kwintenmotief (Michael!)

uit het 2^e Michaelslied,

waarna het werk zijn apotheotische slot bereikt

in de Michaels-overwinnings-toonsoort D groot.
