De première van het werk vond plaats op 5 mei 2018 in de Schuilkerk te Gorkum.
Het begin in de Requiemtoonsoort D klein verbeeldt de dood en het noodlot, het onontkoombare van de dood. Meedogenloos en genadeloos.
En de wanhoop en vertwijfeling van een moeder die haar kind verliest.
Het ergste wat een moeder kan overkomen.
De eerste helft drukt de dood uit en het noodlot, en ook de verbittering en de pijn van de moeder, de wanhoop en despair, the agony.
D klein heeft altijd iets definitiefs, iets stars en strengs, steenachtigs, namelijk het gegeven dat de dood onontkoombaar is en meedogenloos, hij kent geen genade.
Dood is dood, het is het definitieve einde van een aards mensenleven, althans, zo ervaren de mensen dat.
Ook bitterheid, wanhoop en ontzetting, liefde en tederheid, hoop en vertwijfeling, en berusting ofwel de worsteling om berusting te kunnen vinden vindt men in het stuk.
Er zit ook een solo-viool-gedeelte in.
De 2e, meer lyrische helft staat meer in fis klein, maar na de climax en de ineenstorting volgt meer berustende muziek die uiteindelijk toch weer in D klein eindigt.
On the 16th of May 2018 it was 3 years ago that Hanna, the daughter of the Ukrainian violinist Juliya Belyanevich, died at the age of 22. For that occasion, Juliya wanted to organize a memorial concert in honor of her daughter in Gorkum. She asked Marc to compose an 'In Memoriam' for that occasion.
The premiere of the work took place on the 5th of May 2018 in the Schuilkerk in Gorkum.
The beginning of the piece is in the Requiem-tone-scale D minor, which represents death and fate, the inescapablity of death. Ruthless and merciless.
And the desperation of a mother who loses her child.
The worst thing that can happen to a mother.
The first half of the piece expresses death and fate, and also the bitterness and pain of the mother, the despair, the agony.
D minor always has something definitive, something stiffened, stern, stony, namely the fact that death is inescapable and ruthless, death has no mercy.
Death is dead, it is the definitive end of an earthly human life, at least that is how people experience it.
Also bitterness, despair and dismay, love and tenderness, hope and despair, and resignation or the struggle to find resignation can be found in the piece.
There is also a solo violin part.
The 2nd, more lyrical half is more in F sharp minor, but after the climax and the collapse there follows a more resigned music which finally ends in D minor.
