marciale vorm [13.45].
First part: Out of the heavenly B a sort
of cosmically music, the creation in the beginning of time. Then a 'fate-theme'
arises [3.15], the first shadow of the forces of evil. The mystical music goes
on [3.45]. Then, a slow, triumphal rising theme arises [6.40]. Now, the
fate-thema reappears and a sort of battle begins with the st. Michaels triumpfal
theme [8.15], whichs ends with the triumph of the Michaels triumph music [9.25].
(the defeat of Lucifer after his rebellion) The music goes to its peace
[11.00]and out of the heavenly B sounds in the trumpet for the first time the
st. Michaels song of the Rudolf Steiner school / 'the free school' of The Hague
[11.15]. The powers of evil arise for the second time out of hell when out of
the depth of the under earth the contra bassoon begin a threatening theme
[12.10] and alle the monsters from hell come out ot their hiding places...
[12.10-13.45] After the chaos, a new great battle begin with the fate-theme in a
sort of march-like form [13.45]. An apocalyptical battle starts in which we are
in the middle of nowadays...

Part 2:The battle
continues between Michael and his armee of angels against the forces of darkness.
It goes to its highlight [1.20] in which the fate-theme seems to triumph [2.50].
Everything goes down, and a sad music sound in the flutes / piccolo's [3.10],
oboes [4.10] and clarinets [4.25]. Then, dark and threatening deathmusic sounds
in the trombones [4.35], in the death tone scale of D minor. Now, the music
tries to conquer darkness and rises slowly to the light [5.00]. The Free school
Michaels song sounds in its apotheotical form in the horns [6.20], and the work
ends on a great and apotheotical form with the heroic D major Michaels triumphal
theme 7.30].

harp, lage strijkers etc.
Heinz Friesen in
uitgezonden;
geschenk.

Heroic
and majestic work for a very large Symphonic Band, including piano, harp, lower
strings, etc. .
Performed for the first time by the orchestra ‘st. Michael’ Thorn in 1995, the WMC-winners of 1993.
-This work could be very suitable for the big orchestras out of Spain with their string-sections of Double Basses and Celli ! -
31-3-2010 my dream, a performance of this piece by a great Spanish 'Banda' finally was realised when one of the best banda's of Spain, a banda from Lliria, did play the piece in a concert. Michael is the patron of Lliria, because there is a famous st. Michaels monasterie on a hill top. Each year there is a Michaels feast and a Michaels procession in september the 29th, on st. Michaels day.

Dag Marc,
binnenkomen.
Ik
heb jouw symfonie kunnen beluisteren. Een prachtig werk, boeiend van het
begin tot het eind.
In
Hoe
heb je het zelf ervaren?
Hartelijke groet,

Michaels symphony
A speech by
Marc van Delft
for the concert of march, 31th, 2010 - Lliria
===========================================
I did write this speech for the concert in Lliria on request of a contact
person, but later, the conductor told me that there was no time for this speech.
So, because of the importance of the content, I decided to put it here, in order
to make it possible for people to read more, and more in detail, about my
Michaels symphony and its background.
Marc van Delft
=============================
The speech:
=============================
I am very glad that my piece ‘Michaels symphony’ will be performed this evening
in Spain by this magnificent orchestra!
When I did compose this piece in 1994, now 16 years ago, for the orchestra
‘st. Michael from Thorn’, I realised that they had the same composition of
instruments as the big Spanish orchestras, so, when I did compose it, I did it
with the idea in my mind that it would be very suitable for these impressive
great Spanish orchestras !
I had heard these big Spanish orchestras at the WMC, for example playing the
briljante symphony of Ida Gotkowsky in 1991, and that was very impressive, it
did sound like a thunderstorm, and I thought: I want to make a piece that will
be especially suited for such an orchestra!
I was of course very disappointed that the piece wasn’t played in Spain, and I
had to wait for 14 or 16 years before the Michaels symphony really did sound in
Spain for the first time…
But now, after so many years of waiting, at last, the great moment has arrived
that one of the best orchestras of Spain will be playing this great, monumental
work, this cosmically symphony…
And I am sure it will be an impressive experience to attend this important
event, I mean: Important for me, and I do hope, also important for the great
Spanish or Valencian wind music culture, because this work has a sort of
cosmically monumentality !
I had also in mind that Spain is a catholic land, in which saints and archangels
play an important role in culture, surely the subject of Michael, the great
archangel who fights the great battles for God against the powers of evil, could
be an important theme in the Spanish religious culture!
[Later, it became clear that this was a good guess, because the patron of Lliria
is st. Michael himself!! There is a famous
st. Michaels monasterie on a hill top.
Each year there is a Michaels feast and a Michaels procession in september the
29th, on st. Michaels day.
Many pilgrims visit this sanctuary !!]
Michael plays an important role in church and religion, he is the archangel with
his sword of light that defeates the dragon, and also he is the archangel with
the scales who weighs the dead and judges them….
Michael is in my opinion a very important theme in this time, He is the
archangel from the Apocalypse, in the battle against the forces of evil, as they
are described on a very dramatic and fierce full way in the Apocalypse…
We could say that we are living now in a very apocalyptic time, because the
battle between light and darkness was never so dramatic as in the 20th century
and now…
So we had in the 20th century the 1st and second World war, the rise of evil
empires like those of Hitler in Nazism, Mussolini and Franco in fascism, and
Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Polpot in communism…
One of the most apocalyptic events was the invention of the atomic bomb, the
bomb on Hiroshima, and also the Holocaust, the destruction of the Jewish people
by Nazi Germany.
On this moment, the battle between the USA and the NAVO with the lands of the
middle east, and the increase of control of citizens by the state is a very evil
development…
So, we are now in the middle of the battle between the powers of darkness, the
powers of the dragon, represented by the American capitalism and imperialism,
who are serving the God Mammon, representing the greed for money and power,
rightwing conservatives, against the powers of light under the spiritual
leadership of archangel Michael, represented these days by the alternative and
anti-globalist movement, organisations like amnesty international, Greenpeace,
the environment organisations, and many spiritual and esoteric groups like the
antroposophical movement, fighting for a better, more natural, spiritual and
more righteous world of brotherly love, freedom and equality etc. …
But this battle is a theme of all times and it begins allready at the beginning
of time after the creation of man in paradise….
In fact, my symphony describes the whole history of mankind and the world, from
the beginning, paradise and the creation, until the end of the World, the
ultimate triumph in the creation of the New Jerusalem at the end of the
Apocalypse…
----
So, the beginning of my symphony describes the beginning of time, we are in the
sphere of spiritual light, of eternal spiritual being in a sort of cosmically
music.
---------------
Please play the first pages of the piece until bar 15.
---------------
The first battle of Michael against evil is the battle against Lucifer, Gods
most beloved angel.
Lucifer is the light bringer, but he became proud…
So, when God created the paradise for men, and he gave Adam the beautiful Eve as
woman, he became jealous, because God had given so many privileges to men…
He became a rebel and created a revolution against GOD, and in the heavenly
battle, archangel Michael, the servant of God, did triumph over the armies of
Lucifer, and Lucifer was thrown out of heaven and fell on earth, where he became
the devil…
In the form of a snake he seduced Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge, Adam
and Eve did fall into sin, and were driven out of the paradise and had to live
on earth in a body of flesh and blood….
So Lucifer, the jealous angel got his way: Adam and Eve were driven out of
paradise…
In my piece, we get after the description of the cosmically eternity the first
shadow of darkness in the fate theme.
------------
Play bar 24-35, page 5
--------------
The cosmically music goes on.
From bar 82, page 15, the music builds to a great cosmically-like climax, the
greatness of Gods creation…
But from page 20, bar 116, the fate theme reappears and now a sort of battle
between the fate theme and the Michaels theme begins…
--------------------
Play page 20, from bar 112, until bar 131
------------------------
But then, the Michaels triumph theme arrives at its full glory, Michael has
triumphed over Lucifer.
-------------------------------
Play page 28: 143- 157
-----------------------------
After the Michaelic triumph music, the music becomes peaceful, and then we hear
in the trumpet a well-known Michaels song, which was sung every year on the
Michaels feast at the free- or Waldorf school where I did spend in my youth.
This Michaels feast is celebrated every year in the end of September, and the
pupils of this antroposophical school did sing then this song:
------------------------------
I sing the Michaels song:
------------------------------
Translation in English:
------------------------------
Michael, Michael
With your starry sword
Give us power, give us force
Doing good on earth
------------------------------
Now the trumpet plays this Michaels song from the free school for the Michaels
feast:
Play page 40, bar 184-195;
-------------------------------------
So, now we think everything is OK now, but the forces of evil are preparing for
a new attack….
Out of the depths of darkness they are coming out of hell and plan a new
attack….
--------------------------------
Play: page 48, bar 224-245
---------------------------------
So, now we are in the present time and the battle between the forces of light
and darkness, between the dragon and Michael are at their full force.
----------------------------------
Play page: 75, bar 314-340
---------------------------------------
At the climax it seems that the forces of darkness are this time the most
powerful, what has to do with this time:
Indeed, the powers of evil are so powerful nowadays, that it seems that nothing
can stop them.
The great bankers and the power elite are planning now a 'New World Order', in
fact they plan a World government and a total control of the whole World
population, Obama has allready begun to chip the whole population by a microchip
in his health law…
Furthermore:
The seas are being fished empty by gigantic fishing nets, all the fish of the sea will
be destroyed if that isn’t stopped and the consequences for the whole
earth ecology will be devastating…
Everyday, gigantic quantities of rainforests are destroyed…
Mankind threads the earth nowadays on a terrible dangerous way….
In the music, the fate-thema of the dark powers seems to triumph:
---------------------
Play: page 80, bar 346-362
----------------------
The music collapses, and the fate theme is now played in a sad and elegiac way
by the woodwinds.
The music descents to the depth of darkness and dead, and we hear the trombones,
the instruments of death and fate…
----------------------------------------
Play page 90, bar- 395-400
-------------------------------------
But from that moment, the music rises from darkness to light, from death to
resurrection, Christ had been risen from the grave, new life and hope for the
future arises, and then we hear again the Saint Michaels song arise in the
horns:
-----------------------------------------
Play: page 96 - bar 424-444
----------------------------------------
This seems to refer to the end of the bible as Johannes had the vision of the
New Jerusalem as a sort of place where the forces of light have ultimately
triumphed over the powers of darkness, and the symphony ends with a last
apotheosis of the Michaels triumphal theme:
-------------------------------------------
Page: 105, bar 450-463
-------------------------------------------
So, I do hope you all will enjoy this cosmically and monumental symphony, and
for that we ask the blessing of st. Michael and we wish the orchestra and her
conductor much inspiration for the performance, and the audience for her
attention!
